A mere inspiration soon became reality in Naples’ exclusive Pelican Bay. Nestled in the private gated community, “Georgetown,” a 6,150-square-foot home, is decked out with style and sophistication, all conceived by the collaborative team of developer Leslie Sherman and interior designers Randi Scott and Liz Brown, architects Randall Stofft and John Cooney, and builder Matt Knauf. With more than a half-dozen projects created together, the team brings something new to Pelican Bay that has not been done before. “We continue to raise the bar,” Sherman says. “This residence is a soft contemporary take on the British West Indies-style home.”

With no expense spared, the exterior of the home conveys a message of refined beauty that is graced with lush tropical foliage to provide shade and privacy. Natural tones and textures promote a striking presentation as a circular drive of cement pavers in vanilla, chocolate and caramel hues offers a warm welcome. In a sub-tropical climate, the concrete roof serves a purpose as well. “The entire house was designed with special components to withstand the heat and Naples’ subtropical climate,” Knauf says. To create contrast, the deep rich color of the roof is tempered with a soft pale shade for the stucco walls.

Tone-on-tone neutral colors flow to the inside, where splashes of blue are sprinkled throughout the great room. Resting on oak wood flooring, a hand-knotted wool and silk area rug acts as a piece of art with shades of color in an abstract pattern. “We fell in love with the color and it became the inspiration for the room,” Scott says. The sofa is inviting with a soft neutral fabric and streamlined arms. “I love this piece, it’s one of the first things you see when you enter the home,” Scott says.

ABOVE: With an emphasis on architectural design, architect John Cooney and builder Matt Knauf created an exterior delineated with connecting brackets made of cypress wood that stretch from the roof to the face of the home to add dimension and interest. The custom mahogany front door is a glimpse of what’s to come.

BELOW: A custom-designed maple wood ceiling steps up to add dimension in the great room. Theodore Alexander’s wood-framed club chairs exude the essence of architectural integrity, while the custom two-tiered cocktail table gives rise to ingenious craftsmanship. Blue swivel chairs from Adriana Hoyos join the social grouping.

The dining room is suffused with natural light and steeped in textural interplay. “We wanted the space to be about the view,” Brown says. The warmth of soft hues and wood tones comes across in the solid wood dining table and the modern classic style of the dining chairs. Here, a thin wood trim around the host chairs completes the contemporary play on a traditional style wing chair.

BELOW: Avenue lighting’s clear glass globes form an illuminating piece of art that adds a modern touch above the wood table from Adriana Hoyos. Visual comfort’s traditional shaded sconces allow the space to unfold into a unique hybrid of style.

An adjacent family room exudes a casual and simple yet sophisticated ambiance. Varying tones of blues from the area rug create connectivity with the blue and gray striped club chairs. Above it all, hues of blue stand out dramatically with the soft waves of a calming beach scene. “We tried to keep the palette neutral with wood elements to achieve a soft contemporary, transitional style,” Sherman says.

BELOW: With the space designed for cozy gatherings, a linen-clad sectional from Century Furniture exudes deep-seated comfort in the family room. Adding to the casual atmosphere, Beachwalk by artist James Lewis hangs above Burton James’s blue and gray club chairs.

Serenity prevails in the master bedroom with cool blues and grays in the wool and silk area rug that boasts a casual unstructured pattern. Focusing on an open concept, a cerused oak canopy bed is structured with cream-colored leather channeled insets on the headboard — creating finesse without obstructing the garden views.

BELOW: With sweeping views, varied textures and a contemporary take on the British West Indies style, the master bedroom invites relaxation. Kravet’s cerused oak canopy bed is the focal point, while a dark wood dresser features solid brass handles that resemble tree branches giving the piece an art-like appearance.

Neutral tones and organic elements set the stage for spa-like relaxation in the master bath, where custom black walnut cabinetry lines the walls while shell-stone tile canvases the floor and climbs the columns.

BELOW: The master bath is designed to cast the impression of a resort spa. Black walnut cabinetry adds an organic element, while a freestanding tub presents a contemporary twist.

“WE CONTINUE TO RAISE THE BAR,” DEVELOPER LESLIE SHERMAN SAYS. “THIS RESIDENCE IS A SOFT CONTEMPORARY TAKE ON THE BRITISH WEST INDIES-STYLE HOME.”

At the heart of the home, the kitchen is a place where family and friends gather, and artisan meals are crafted. Guests pull up to an oversized island topped with a two-inch-thick solid slab of brilliant white Cristallo quartzite. Stained maple wood cabinetry with channel molding pairs with the striations of gray veins in a marbleized quartzite backsplash. “We wanted to keep it clean, simple and classic,” Scott says.

BELOW: Frosted-glass tubes shape Arteriors’ contemporary lantern-style pendants in the kitchen lined with stained maple wood cabinetry. Simplicity and elegance define the curved, low-back silhouette of Swaim’s counter stools that tuck neatly beneath the breakfast bar topped in UMI’s brilliant white Cristallo quartzite.

Step outside, where comfort and chic collide when a variety of woods come together in a hearthside setting on the loggia. Teak occasional tables with horizontal slats add an element of dimension while the cocktail table from Mr. Brown is distinct with a dark bronze metal base and concrete top. The result of a collaborative vision, this luxurious space accomplishes the serenity and sophistication that are hallmarks of the resort lifestyle.

BELOW: A custom built-in fireplace and durable Gloster furnishings compose an inviting social grouping on the loggia, a transition space between the home and the pool and gardens. Barrel chairs framed in wood with intertwined woven straps exude personality in the most unassuming way.
